Birdlife flourishes at Cattai Wetlands in the Manning Valley

Birdlife flourishes at Cattai Wetlands in the Manning Valley

With the recent much needed wet weather we’ve experienced, the birds and wildlife have been seen in abundance here at Kiwarrak Country Retreat. White Necked Herons and gorgeous little crakes have been dipping in and out of the dams, which are full of blooming blue water lilies.

I spied an Azure Kingfisher perched on a branch and lots of parrots in the trees.

The Red Necked Wallabies are happy to see the green grass and so are the Hares and the Swamp Hens.

For wetlands on a much larger scale, the Manning Valley boasts the beautiful Cattai Wetlands, only 20 minutes north of Taree. The Wetlands has been lovingly and painstakingly rehabilitated from land clearing and farming and now hosts over 170 different bird species as well as an abundance of wildlife.

Free to enter, it is a lovely attraction to while away a couple of hours with easy boardwalk access and picnic tables. It opens from Friday to Monday, 8am to 3pm or phone 65925399 for an appointment outside of these hours. Opening hours extend over school holidays so contact Taree City Council for the most up to date information.
